Priestess of Avalon was half completed and was finished by her writing partner, Diana Paxson. Marion Zimmer Bradley died in Berkeley, California on September 25, 1999, four days after suffering a major heart attack. She also edited an annual anthology called SWORD AND SORCERESS for DAW Books. Bradley edited many magazines, amateur and professional, including Marion Zimmer Bradley's FANTASY Magazine, which she started in 1988. She wrote everything from science fiction to Gothics, but is probably best known for her Darkover novels. from Hardin Simmons University in Texas in 1964 and then did graduate work at the University of California, Berkley from 1965-1967. She published her first science fiction story in 1953 and the first book in the Darkover Series in 1958. She began writing early and had created a science fiction fanzine when she was seventeen.

She was married to Robert Bradley from 1949-1964. Marion Zimmer Bradley was born in 1930 in Albany, New York.

For all of our surroundings, I spent three solid days in the likes of castles and the mystical Avalon. When I read this book, we were moored in Vero Beach. Mists of Avalon is very accessible reading. From what I understand, the book is well researched and includes all of the old stories along with the radical new perspective. Until I had read this book, I had little interest in the Knights of the Round Table. When I had finished this impressive novel, I suddenly noticed a whole section in the bookstore and I actually recognized the names and places on the covers. (I'm not saying I'm converted and ready to buy these books.) It was like recognizing words in a foreign language! Not only does Bradley give us a fresh vision of a legendary saga, she provides a strong understanding of the Druid religion and the role Christianity played in it's demise. This time the story is told by the women of those fabled days. The Mists of Avalon takes us back to the days of King Arthur and his Camelot cronies.
